Put your Trypants on.

Hi, I'm Jon. I do a bunch of the website and social media stuff for A.P.E. and I want to talk a little about the DIY mentality I so dearly want to spread in this world. Specifically, I think that the idea of "do-it-yourself" or "built not bought" has some deep implications in the automotive and motorsports world.

When it comes to getting things done in this world there is a saying many of us westerners have heard: "There's more than one way to skin a cat." My point here is when it comes to modifying cars and extracting performance (and/or style) from your vehicle there are plenty of ways to go about it. This means that no matter what decision you make when you start wrenching on your ride you could have done something else instead. So, I say just try it out. Do something you aren't quite sure about anyway. We may have a limited time on this Earth, but we make life worth living by jumping in head first into things and earning our stories with the risks we take. So, if you are about to buy that new set of tires for your car, don't be so worried about getting the perfect set. It could be the first out of 10 or 20 sets you buy if it is a car you love. Worried about blowing up the motor on your daily by pushing too much boost through it? Boost her up! See what she can handle and worry about it after you take a few 2-3-4 late night highway pulls and if she blows up then you get to learn how to rebuild it. Worried about not rebuilding the engine just right? Then after this time you get to learn the old fashioned way (see: guess and check method).

To TRY is to push forward into that project or activity and then look back on the flip side so you can laugh and learn. Go out and TRY that thing you are afraid of doing with your car, bike or truck. It could be a glorious failure, but it might also just be glorious.

So put your trypants on and see where they take you.
